 US-China
Exchange Council (USCEC) and San Jose State University (SJSU) International
and Extended Studies (IES), announce the establishment of a strategic
alliance to set up collaborative programs in international education
between China and the United States. It is the intent to foster maximum
interaction between SJSU/IES and USCEC in support of this alliance
and to encourage long-term cooperation on projects dedicated to promoting
understanding, friendship and cooperation between people, companies
and agencies in the U.S. and China.
SJSU/IES Overview
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the world’s high
tech capital, SJSU successfully educates students to compete in
and contribute to the complex, global economy of the new century.
Founded
in 1857, San José State University is the oldest public institution
of higher education on the West Coast of the United States. From
its beginnings as a normal school to train teachers for the developing
frontier, SJSU has matured into an international university with
eight colleges offering more than 134 bachelor’s and master’s
degrees. SJSU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior
Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools
and Colleges.
International and Extended Studies increases opportunity through
access to quality lifelong education for Silicon Valley and the
world. IES links SJSU to the world outside Silicon Valley by hosting
international guests, developing new programs, and encouraging the
internationalization of the campus.
Strategic Alliance Overview
Combining the academic resources of SJSU and the professional network
of USCEC in China and America, the major focus of the alliance will
be on short-term executive training programs and study visits for
inbound Chinese government, university, and industry officials to
San Jose, California.
IES will be in charge of coordinating academic resources for these
training programs by assigning faculty and classrooms, and academic
and visa support services. USCEC will be in charge of coordinating
Chinese agencies and training groups for payment, logistics for
housing, internships, field trips and study tours.
USCEC
will identify and refer interested and qualified clients in China
who desire to pursue a course of study at SJSU. Appropriate training
leads in China received by IES will be passed to USCEC for follow-up,
negotiation, and coordination on behalf of the university. USCEC
and IES will also work together at the annual SAFEA conference in
Nanjing, China to promote the alliance.
The alliance will also expand into the following area of cooperation;
others may be added as needed.
